AN EASY VICTORY. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 9, 11.20 a.m. NEW YORK, Aug, S. Woods and Paterson, in the' doubles, defeated Borboila and Gerties 6 —3, o—4,0 —4, 6 —o, and thus won the match against Mexico in the first set. Borbella began serving, and the Mexictns non the first- game. They also succeeded in the third and fiftn, and prolonged the game uv taking the ninth when on tne verge of -defeat. The Australians won the next, and game. In the second set the Mexicans showed considerable double ability, serving with, strength and returning the hardest shots. Gerdes played acutely, and found open spots for placements. The Mexicans won the first, third, fifth and seventh sets. Then Patterson’s service proved too powerful, and breaking through G ernes’ service, the Australian won the last three games.

In the third set the Mexicans apparently tiTed, and succumbed to Patterson’s bard nitting and Wood’s canny placements. They gave evidence of shrewd understanding and team work, but the Australians’ brilliance was too much, even for their powerful opponents. The latter did not lose a game and won each easily.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
