MESSAGE FROM MACLAREN. ENGINE STANDS EVERY TEST. BY CABLE—PREBS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT VANCOUVER, Aug. 6. MacLaren’s message, transmitted from Cordova, Alaska, says: “The three airmen had difficulty in keeping' the engine running until they reached the surf at the foot of Behring Island cliffs, in the Komandorski group, eastward of Kamschatka. After bitting the water they wirelessed: “Sorry failed at last moment; engine perfectly magnificent, having run for 100 hours under all conditions of climate without replacement of any kind. We had to fly above the fog .frequently, when, if the. engine had failed,. it meant certain death. The previous gear trouble was due to the machine being too heavily loaded.” MacLaren added: “My confidence in the engine lias been so great that no spare parts were carried after the ’plane was put into flight at Akyab, and no parts were required until the Komandorski disaster occurred.”—Reuter.
