THE ALLIES
■GERMAN REPLY PRESENTED. 3Y CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 7, 10.40 ami. ( LONDON, Aug. 6. The German reply has .been presented to the Conference. It is understood that it contains no definite counterproposals, and is confined to constructive! comments and criticisms. It deals largely with questions -of sanctions and the transfer of reparations, constitution of the proposed arbitration courts and other points not of great political significance or controversial. The question of partial Franco-Belgian staffing of the German railways is not mentioned, the Germans regarding itas outside the scope of the conference. The Germans are optimistic as regards the acceptance of the reply. It is learned that a covering letter to the German reply presented to the conference urges that the questions of military evacuation of*all the Rhineland railways, which the conference had not- dealt with, ought to be discussed. It is understood that these matters are now being examined outside the Conference hv an Allied representative.— Reuter.
