MONASTERY ROBBED.
ABBOT FORCED TO HAND OVER TREASURES. BY- CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYBIGHT (Received Aug. 7, 9.15 a.m.) VIENNA, Aug. 6. Twelve visitors in army officers’ uniforms called at the Fontana Alba Monastery in Roumania and asked the abbot to show them round. The monks invited the visitors to take a meal in the refectory. In t-lie middle of the meal the officers suddenly produced revolvers and forced the abbot to hand over a collection of valuable church plate and. priceless jewellery.
