ARARATA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday evening last a very enjoyable little social and dance in aid of school funds, was held in the Ararata Hall, under the management of a committee of the senior school children and their teacher (Miss Anthony). In spite of the threatening state of the weather, a large crowd of parents and friends were present, and all seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly. The programme for the evening was in the capable hands of Messrs Lind and Collingwood, as M.G.’s, and dancing was interspersed with the following items: Recitation, Joan Wright: song, school children; dialogue, senior children; song, Rita Fido ; song, Hilda Burton; recitations, Miss Ballantine; songs, Mrs E. Lee, Mr. Cunningham, Mrs. W! Parker, Mr. Humphries, and Mr. Pollock. ' The music for the evening was supplied by Messrs. Marsh and Larcom, with extras by Mrs. Fyson, Mrs. Corkill, Miss Lundberg, and Mr. Humphries. As a result of this social, the school funds benefit to a gratifying extent, and the thanks of the committee are due to all those who assisted in any way in making the evening the great success that it was. It has been proposed that some of the money obtained should be expended in starting a school library, while the rest will be spent on further improvements to the school grounds.
