SUPPORT FOR LAND TAX. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) mi ~ TIMARU, Aug. 6. lh e South Canterbury executive of the Farmers’ Union passed a resolution to-dav that the land tax is the most serviceable form of taxation for the farming community, provided the farmer only pays on his interest in the land. The executive strongly protested against paying Loth land and income tax. INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE. WELLINGTON, August 6. The Dominion, executive of the Institute of Horticulture met to-day, Dr. Cockayne, F.R.S., presiding. Mr H. Baillie was appointed hon. executive secretary, and Mr Geo. A. Green was re-appointed Dominion organiser and secretary. It was decided to push on the organising work. The ladies’ committee suggested details of this, and other matters were referred to a subcommittee with power to act.
