HAWERA SCOTTISH ORCHESTRA
The meeting called for the purpose of forming a Scottish Orchestra was held on Monday night in the A. and P. Hall. A very good beginning was made in that direction. Mr D. McCormick (secretary) and Mr W. G. Simpson (chieftain of the Scottish Society) were present. Mr Simpson explained to the meeting that the Scottish Society would be carrying out the aim of their society by assisting to form this orchestra, and they welcomed the opportunity of doing something to foster the love of music, not necessarily all Scotch. He could speak with confidence in saying that * the financial support and any other support asked for by the orchestra would he given with a will hv every one of its 350 members. They as a society did not wish to control the orchestra in any way. as they believed that it would be to the advantage of all parties if they simply stood behind the orchestra to give support when necessary. Twenty odd names were given to Mr McConnell, besides those present signifying their intention of joining. The meeting decided to call a practice for Monday, the 11th. in the same hall. All present expressed the opinion that their efforts would meet with the success such a worthy object deserves.
