TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL.

PRESENTATION TO RETIRING TEACHER. A pleasing ceremony took place at the school last Thursday, when the staff’ and pupils assembled in the main hall to bid farewell to Miss Clay, who is severing her connection with the school owing to her approaching marriage. When Miss Clay entered the hall she was presented by one of the senior commercial girls with a beautiful bunch of violets. In asking the departing teacher to accept from the staff and scholars a small present in the shape of a Royal Doulton tea set, the headmaster expressed the regret of all at losing one who ha { ] done much good service 'for the school during the three years she had been on the staff. He said that not only had Miss Clay very conscientiously carried out her teaching duties, but she had always been ready to do anything for the school generally. In thanking the school for the gift, Miss Clay said that she felt it very much to leave a position where she had been very happy. She spoke of the excellent relations that existed between the members of the staff and the pupils, and stated that she would always be interested in the welfare of the school. After hearty cheers had been given, the members of the staff entertained her at afternoon ten.
