GERMANS ARRIVE. CONCILIATORY SPIRIT. ST CABLB —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Received Aug. 6, 10.15 a,m. LONDON, Aug. 5. Dr. Marx, Herr Stresemann, and other German delegates have arrived. The party numbers about 40. The Chancellor said: “We have come with a sincere desire to assist in finding the best method of putting the Dawes report in action unaltered, and in the spirit of the authors we wish to see the report carried through as .soon as possible. We intend contributing our own part towards its loyal fulfilment. We have no doubt that we will find the same spirit prevailing in London, and if that* is the case then Jt may safely be assumed that we will speedily come to an agreement.” The second stage of the conference was opened in Downing Street at noon. The Allied delegates were joined by half a dozen Germans, whose arrival was watched by a large crowd. The conference lasted threequarters of an hour, and w r as purelv formal. Mr MacDonald, in welcoming the said he hoped it would he a possible to hold the final conference on Friday.—Reuter. DAWES REPORT. Received Aug. 6, 1.15 p.m LONDON, Aug. 5 Mr MacDonald emphasised that the only business of the Allied Conference was to deal with the Dawes report. He hoped that by the spirit of co-op-eration a successful conclusion would he reached. Dr. Marx said that if the conference succeeded the German people would devote their whole strength to oaivTying out the obligations involved under the Dawes report. Sir James ‘Allen represented New Zealand. —Reuter.
