THE SOVIET
CONFERENCE WITH BRITAIN. NO AGREEMENT. BY CABLE- PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYBIGHT LONDON, Aug. 5. The following communique has been issued by the Foreign Office: —“The Anglo-Soviet conference, having sat in committee for the whole of Saturday and Sunday, met in full session on Monday at noon and sat until 7.15 this morning. “As the Soviet delegation was unable to accept the amendments and concessions in regard to Article 14 of the draft treaty, no agreement was reached and negotiations have broken down. The treaty will not be signed.”
A message received at an earlier hour last night, dated London, August 5, stated : —The Anglo-Russian conference was still sitting at an early hour this morning, endeavouring to reach a decision prior to a statement which is expected to be made in the House of Commons to-day by Mr. Arthur Ponsonby (Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs).
