IRELAND

THE PROPOSED BILL. MAY LEAD TO ELECTION. BY CABLE--PBEBB ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT . . LONDON. Aug. 4. . The visit of Mr Thomas to .Dublin is taken as an indication that Mr Cosgraye is determined to press, the Government to introduce and pass a Bill during the present session, whereas the Government is anxious for delay, hcping to reach a -settlement bstore tne autumn session. The Government is supported in this view by the Conservatives, but, although the Liberals are credited with the desire to raise an issue immedihtelv, they range themselves beside tl]e Government to force an election if necessary. MR. MASSEY QUESTIONED. (BY TELEGRAPH —PEEB& ASSOCIATION .) WELLINGTON, Aug. 5, , The Irish boundary question was mentioned in the House of Representatives this afternoon, when Mr T. M. Wilford (Leader of the Opposition) asked the Prime Minister (Mr W. F. Massey) if -the New Zealand Government- was asked to allow a judge to act on the Irish Boundary Commission. Mir Massey replied that the Government had not received any -invitation to assist in dealing with the boundary question. He pointed out that this very delicate question .was even more delicate than foreign affairs, but he would have the fullest confidence in any of our judges if they were called upon to undertake such a task. Fdreign affairs bristled with difficulties, and must be handled by men with expert knowledge of constitutional law. *
