BUTTER EXPORT.
ARGENTINE COMPETITION INCREASING. MELBOURNE, July .11. After ah extensive tour of the world, investigating problems relating to the dairying industry, the Commonwealth dairy expert (Mr. O’Callaghah) re- J turned to Melbourne to-day, and presented his report to the Minister for Trade iand Customs (Mr. Pratten): Mr. O’Callaghan visited Great Britain, . Holland, Belgium, United States of America, and Canada, - r The report states that the competition of Argentine butter in England is increasing, and last year the’ quantity exported from the Argentine was doubled. Although the Argentine butter is very inferior to the Australian product its large quantity has a very adverse effect upon the British market. The fact that Australian butter could not be bought- in England as Australian butter was not due to any defect in quality or colour. The butter was of such -fine texture that it had to be blended with ooarses butter so that it could be used during the severe English winter. Unblended Australian butter would become so hard in winter that it could not be spread upon the bread. After considering the report Mr. Pratten will make a series of recommendations to the Cabinet.
