(From Our Own Correspondent). A very enjoyable Church of England social was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Thursday evening. There was a large attendance, considering counterattractions. Dancing, vocal items, and competitions were indulged in, and were heartily enjoyed by all present. During the evening two little girls (Alisses Berry and 1 Juneau) danced the Sailor’s Hornpipe in costume, and their dancing was so much cm eyed that they had to respond to a. wed-meritcd encore. Air Cotteirill sang two populai songs in grand style, and Air Gardiner’s songs were very feelingly sung, being encored. Air Alatheson played a violin solo very nicely, and had to respond. The . music for the dancing was given by Alisses Cook, Cassidy and Airs Abbott and Air Abbott (piano), and Airs Alatheson (violin). Tlie various competitions caused much merriment. especially the potato race, bottle walking, smell guessing and the fortune telling trick brought down the house. • The supper provided bv the ladies was first-class, and the floor was in good order for dancing. Airs A. J. Hansen, who was in charge, is to be thanked for the very nice evening spent bv all, also Air Abbott, who auranged the programme, and nil 'who assisted with the programme, everyone going homo thoroughly happy at having spent •inch an enjoyable time. RTFLE CLUB.
A special meeting or the above was held in the County Council office oh Thursday, to consider and arrange matters .between the Rifle Club and the Aliniature Rifle Club which has just been formed. The president (Air. J. S. McKay) presided over a good muster of members. It was decided that the secretary keep separate accounts of the Rifle and Aliniature Clubs An executive committee, comprising the president, vice-president, and Riflemen Andrews, Bellman, Cosgrove, and Hobday, was formed to arrange •all matters, including matches/trophies, etc., for both clubs. The balance-sheet up to the night of the meeting showed no liabilities and £4l in credit, which was considered vorv satisfactory. Lieut.-Colonel Sutherland, who has acted as honorary secretary since the club was formed, wished to he relieved of the position, as he was living out of town, and suggested Rifleman Hotter, who is in charge of and responsible for all stores, etc., belonging to the club. A hearty vote of thanks, proposed by Rifleman Cosgrove and seconded by the president, to Lieut,-Colonel Sutherland for the capable manner in which he had carried out his duties, was carried by acclamation. Colonel Sutherland, while thanking members for their kind appreciation, alluded to the great amount of work done by Rifleman Hotter, without whose assistance he could not have carried on. Air Motto - was then unanimously electee! secretary and treasurer. A very hearty vote of 1 hanks ■was passed to Airs. A. Hansen nn,| her lady assistants for the capable manner in which they had worked to make the dub ball the success it was. Trophies donated by Lieut.-Colonel Sutherland. Messrs A. G. Bennett. Massey, AT ills, and Sutton, competed for during the year, were all won by the vice-president. Air. J. Silvester, a splend'd performance and one which probably constitutes a record for any club in New Zealand. A heartv vot° of'thanks; to the chairman concludpd a most satisfactory meeting.
