ISLAND FRUITS.
DAMAGED ON VOYAGE * BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT WELLINGTON, July 25, The Ngakuta arrived this afternoon from Cook Islands with a cargo of 16,000 cases of oranges, tomatoes and bananas. The vessel struck bad weather and was forty hours late. From a cursory examination from the deck, it appeared that a proportion of the fiuit AVfls iii bad condition. The inspcctor’s report from the islands stated that a proportion of the oranges had been shipped in rain, which would cause the fruit to sweat. Au officer accustomed to dealing with fruit cargoes expressed the opinion that about 40 per cent, would be fit-for the market. Much rain was experienced at the islands, and the vessel ran into a gale on the run down to New Zealand, which was detrimental to the shipment.
