At the Dominion Conference of the Farmers’ Union to-day an address on the activities of the Dairy Division of the Department of Agriculture was delivered by Mr W. M. Singleton (director ol the’ Dairy Division). Remits were carriedl recommending that the basis of the election of members to the University Senate and the University College Councils be broadened so as to.make provision for the representation of agriculture; that efforts be made to have the training work carried on at Ruakura and other experimental farms extended; that the Education Department be asked to at once systematise agricultural instruction from the primary schools J ight to the university, and that the matriculation examination be amended accordingly. Dr. Reakes said in regard to cattle tick and foot and mouth disease that the Department had under consideration the.taking of further precautionary measures.
The election of officers resulted President, Mr W. J. Poison; tice piesi dents, Messrs Murney (Otago), Duxfield (Auckland), Matheson (Eketohuna); North Island Advisory Committee, Messrs Ross (Auckland). Marshall , (Marton), Livju\gston (Dnnnevirke); South Island Advisory Cqminittee, Messrs Cameron (North Otago), Dickie (Southland), Mulholland (Canterbury). Mr Ch act-wick (Damiev.'rke) was elected treasurer.
