(BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WAIROA, July 25. A fire broke out at about 12.30 this morning in a shop owned by J. R. Ross (Napier) and occupied by Simon Hanoi, fancy goods dealer, which was burnt to the ground; also an adjoining shop and tea room's (Jebb’s), owned by J. Mayor. Both were very old wooden buildings on the Marine Parade. A concrete block of shops adjoining prevented the fire spreading further The insurances are : Raffol’s stock £IOOO in the Commercial Union Ihe estimated loss is £IOOO above the i M, a - V0 ’ s was insured for £6OO m the South British. Jebb's stock was not insured, but was mostly saved.
WELLINGTON. July 25. ~ At the .Magistrate’s Court, Albert George Jait, a seaman, who was a passenger on the Ulimaroa, was fined i-iuo. or three months’ imprisonment, lor importing nine and a half pound tms of opium in a form suitable for smoking CHRISTCHURCH, July 25. The fire was confined to this portion, but the offices above ai d below suffered severely from water and smoke. The building itself was owned by Hon. Mr Izard, and insured for £12,000.
