EXTENSION OF PATENT RIGHTS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION t WELLINGTON, July 25. The first application of its kind in New Zealand for extension of the term of letters patent under the special provisions of the Patents Designs and Trade .Marks Act, 1921-23, relating to inventions the development of which has been retarded by the war, came before the Chief Justice to-dav. The application was by Louis Lemiere, of Lyons, France, and the Gramophone Co., Ltd., of Haves, Middlesex, England (proprietors of “His Master’s Voice” Gramophone), to whom a patent had been assigned by Louis Lemiere for extension of the term of a patent, for an improved diaphragm for gramophones. The application was based on the loss of opportunity of developing the patent occasioned by the war. Five years’ extension was granted.
