Gnuer agreement with the .British Embassy the State Department has made public the correspondence between Mr. Hughes, Secretary of State, and Air. Hoivard, British Ambassador, in June, providing for the appointment at Washington of a Minister to represent the Irish Free State. In a communication of June 24, requesting such a representation s since his Majesty’s Government has concluded that it is desirable, Air. Howard said that such an ambassador would be accredited by the King to the President, and would be furnished with credentials enabling him to take charge of all affairs rehWiug 'to the Free State exclusively, lhe arrangements proposed by his Majesty denote that there will not be a departure from the principle of diplomatic unity of the Empire. The Irish Minister will at all times be in touch .with his Majesty’s ariibassador, in order to settle, by consultation, whether a matter comes within the category of those to be handled by the Irish Minister. In a matter /falling within his sphere the Irish Minister will not be subjected to the control of bis Majesty’s ambassador, .nor would the latter be responsible for the Irish Minister’s action— Aus.-N.Z.
