Tlie English League- football team played its first match of the tour today against South Auckland, and won by 2S points to IG. The Englishmen were much heavier than their opponents. A fast and interesting game resulted, but the match was marred by the consistent infringement of the rules by the Englishmen, who wore repeatedly penalised for offside play. About' half way through the first spell Pollard (the English three-quarter), was injured and lelt the field for some' time. A little later Darwell (the English forward) was ordered off' the ' field for rough play. The Englishmen’s •strength lay in their weight ami pace and their passing rushes. The Chinese university students’ Association football team gained their first victory in the Dominion this afternon, when they defeated the Hawke’s Bay representatives "by a margin of two goals to nil. The match was quite a good exhibition, with the clever work of the visitors the outstanding feature. Their combination was the keynote of their play, individuality .being unknown to theni. In footwork they excelled, showing a masterful control of the ball. They also seemed to have a general inclination to anticipate the play of the home, side, thus enabling them on many occasions to break down the attacking movement.
