FEDERAL POLITICS.
PARTY DIFERENCES. BY CABLE-PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT ( Received July 23. 12.20 p.m { m , MELBOURNE, July'2B. ; The new Senator, Mr Hanan, is an ex-member of Parliament, and is Federal president of the Labour Party. JHo beat the Nationalist candidate bv 4b votes to 43. _ Negotiations v between the Federal Nationalists and the Country Parties lor maintaining the pact against the -Labourites have reached a. critical point. Mr Bruce, Nationalist, and Mr u- Pase ' Countryite, made a pact which, however, the. members of the Lountry Party declined to accept, contending that it^should have been submitted for consideration to the party before acceptance, and are now making certain demands on the Nationalists which Mr Bruce declines to concede, demanding that the pact between the leaders should be honoured. Conferences so far haye failed to find a solution of the difficulty. Failure to reach an agreement will mean a break between the parties, the withdrawal of Country members from Cabinet, and its reconstruction.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
