v.HOR-T1 CULTUR AL SOCIETY. (From Gun; Own Correspodent.) Owing no doubt to the inclement weather, there was not a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Horticultural Society, which took plaet on July IS, the president Mr R. J. Linn, occupied the chair* Owing to the indisposition of Mr Moody, Mr Kvan took his place at the meeting. In moving that the report and bal-ance-sheet lie adopted, the president considered that the society was to be congratulated on jthe result of the year’s working, in view of the fact that they encountered bad weather on show days, which no doubt prevented many from attending. The entries had been a record, but many entires in the flower section had not come forward, being spoilt by the 1 gale which swept the district a few days before the show was held. The society is very much indebted to those ladies, who had charge of the luncehon and tea booths, over L2O being added to the funds of the society 'through their efforts.
Mr James Forbes seconded the President ’s motion, which was adopted. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mrs Gillespie on the loss she had sustained through the dea.th of her husband. This \vas carried in silence, members standing. There was much comment on the large number of members’ subscriptions which were outstanding, and the hope, was expressed that those who were in airrears would forward their subscriptions to the secretary. Linn, who is leaving Normanby to reside in New Plymouth, was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks for the untiring manlier in which he. had carried out the duties of president during the number of years he had occupied that position.
A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring secretary. Mr J. TC. Moody, and the meeting adjourned.
