(I'rom Our Own Correspondent). .On Friday last Mr W. Moves Principal of the New Plymouth Boys’ High bch° ol and Mr F. J. Shearer, sec?euu\ of the Amateur Swimming Association lor iaranaki, called at the local school on their round-the-mountain trip m order to present the boys with their swimrnmg certificates. They were, met to Mr >S. Millar, chairman, and Mr K. Iraser, secretary, of the School Committee. In the course of his remarks, Mr Moyes stressed both the physical and useful values of swimllnd paid tribute to the Oeo ocbool in establishing a record for Jaiaanki \in that no other schools of its soze laid competed for certificates. He then presented the certificates to the, following boys Hector Ross, proficiency; Chester Ross, Willie Boss, Albert Hughes, Theodore Evans, Norman Lians, Iheodore Evans, Norman Evans, and George Madwick, learners’ cerlifil cate.
Mr Hunt, schohnaster. thanked Mr Hunt and Mr Shearer for the work ,y. “?d done in connection with establishing a Jaranaki branch for swimming, and for making a public opportunity of presenting the’ certificates, thus adding lustre to these as far as the boys were concerned. Mr Millar, chairman, ''adequately expressed thanks and appreciation on behalf of the district, saving that the parents especially welcomed swimming instruction in the school. . He thought that next year Mr Moyes would have a great many more certificates to present, as' this was the first year only, and that next year the girls also would receive instruction from their infant mistress, Miss Murphy. Mr Hunt then called upon the boys to show their appreciation to Messirs Moyes and Shearer in the usual manner and Mr Millar also asked the children to do likewise for their teacher.
