HOUSE AND: SENATE. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT OTTAWA, July 19. Before the prorogation of Parliament the Premier (Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King) announced that the Govniment intended next- session to introduce legislation to curb the powers of the Senate. The/difference between the two Houses arose over the Pension Bill, and Mr. Mackenzie King said the Government would seek to establish the rights of the House of Commons over the Senate in respect to legislation instituted in the House of Commons. The privileges sought would be similar to those held by the British House of Commons over the House of Lords. Compulsory employment by all industries of a certain number of disabled ex-soldiers as a last, resort in an effort to suitably emplov all these is recommended in the final report of the commission on re-establishment tabled in the House of Commons. The commissioner declares that such legislation exists in practically all continental countries and the British House of Commons is now considering a similar, measure.
