Canton messages report that the strike of Chinese domestics in the Shamecn foreign quarter is assuming serious aspects, since 26 labour unions haA r e allied themseKes with the strikers British Consular restrictions upon the servants’ entry and departure" in the Shameen section. The restrictions require all Chinese to liai’e passes and to bring their photographs if tliev wish' to leave the quarter after 9 o’clock at mght. The protestants declare that this puts them on the same Ica’cl as criminals, and announce that the cargo boatmen and shipping coolies unions which are important bodies, will also join the strike. A threat has been made against the sailors of vessels on foreign registry for the purpose of supplies for foreigners, and this has been partially successful, although the Shameen residents are managing to obtain daily supplies from Hongkong.—Aus.-N.Z.
