Afr D. H. Butcher, who leaves New rlymouth shortly on transfer to AVe!lington, was on Saturday met by the members of the New Plymouth'' Golf L.luo, of which he has been a prominent member, and presented with an entree dish. In making the presentation, the club captain (M,r S. Burgess) referred to the valuable, services Air Butcher had for many years rendered to the club, especially in connection with young players, and as a member of the handicapping committee. Mr Butcher suitably lepliecl. The death occurred at an early hour yesterday morning of Airs Ellen Hooker, a well-known resident of New Plymouth. Airs Hooker was the second daughter of the late Air John Oliver, oi Oruata. and was horn in New Plymouth in 1859. She was educated in the New Plymouth schools of the day and remained there duriaig the troublous times with the Maoris and ever since. She married Al,r J. F. Hooker in 1878. Airs Hooker is survived bv Air Hooker, her four sons, Alessrs Edgar, Fred, Gordon and Rcyce, and her only daughter, Abrs AY. H. Boon, all of whom reside in New Plymouth.—News.
