LOST REVENUE.

COMPLAINT BY COUNTY COUNCIL. (BY TELEGBAPn —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 18. During a discussion with a deputation from Whangamomona (Taranaki) County Council it was stated that numbers of properties in the district had been abandoned by the holders, 90 per cent, of whom were ex-soldiers. The point at issue was the loss of revenue to local bodies. In this case the council lost £1154 out of a total revenue of £4OOO.

The Minister for Lands agreed that some soldiers were over protected, but an Order-in-Council now enables local bodies to recover rates from the Crown.
