SEXUAL OFFENCES ALLEGED. (by TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION ) - tT , DUNEDIN, July 18. Walter Battarhee, aged 38 years, married, a farmer living in the’ Waikouaiti district, was charged on remand at the Police Court to-day with carnal knowledge, attempted 'carnal knowledge, and indecent assault on three girls and two boys, all under 12 years of age, and boarded out from institutions. The court was cleared during the evidence. The accused was remanded till Tuesday. CHARGE OF ARSON. DUNEDIN, July 18. In the Police Court this morning the case was continued in which .James Dee was charged with having, on .July 12, wilfully set lire to a building situated at 1 3 Lower Rattray Street and occupied by Keith. Ramsay and Co. He pleaded not guilty to both charges. C’hief-Detective Lewis said it was proposed to include evidence relating to three fires on the same night of the alleged offence, and also to a fire a week previously, the object being to show a svstem.
After hearing evidence the magistrate adjouirued the eases till to-morrow morning.
