SYDNEY TRAGEDY.

— FURTHER. DETAILS. HINDER ARRESTED. BY C^BLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT Received July 14, 9.35 a.m. SYDNEY, July 14. Details of the North Sydney tragedy show that Colin Hinder, aged ,16, a military trainee, when playing with his younger brother, said he would show him how to be a. soldier. He secured a service rifle and took what he supposed to be two dummy cartridges, which he inserted in the magazine. He then played in the yard a few minutes, when the younger boy chased his brother. The latter, carrying the rifle, ran towards a gate, tripped, and fell with the muzzle pointing at the two deceased, who were sitting ten feet away. Roberts was killed instantly and Deeaulzel, aged 4, died an hour later.

As a sequel to the North Sydney tragedy Colin Hinder was arrested and formally charged with murder. The police who are investigating thought Hinder’s statement that the rifle went off when he tripped almost impossible, as it would have had to point at a right angle to the direction in which he was running. Further questioned, Hinder said he had not fallen, but emerged from the back gate, saying: “Look out, or I will hunt you.” Roberts.said: “Don’t be foolish.” The rifle then went off.—Aus.-N.Z.
