OLYMPIC GAMES.

LATEST RESULTS. SUCCESS OF NURMI. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT PARIS, July 11. The Olympic games continued today. The only Australian competing to-day was Duigan, in the Decathion 100 metres, in which lie ran second in 11 4-ssec. The most notable performance was that of Fitch (America), who put up a record of 47 4-ssec in the semi-final of the 400 metres event, heating the Englishman Butler and the Canadian Johnston. A surprise,, was caused in the second semi-final by the American Liddell beating the Swiss Imbach and the American Taylor in 48 4-ssec. The final resulted: Liddell (Britain) 1, Fitch (America) 2, Butler (Britain) 3. Won by three yards. Time, 47 3-ssec., a world’s record. Liddell’s three yards win was most brilliant. He defeated many who beat him in the heats. Imbach unfortunately fell in the final when entering the straight. The first series of the Decathlon occupied the whole of the afternoon. Duigan was not prominently placed. The second series will be held tomorrow. The three thousand metres teams race furnished another illustration of Nurmi’s greatness. He captained the Finlanders a»nd gave a unique display of generalship. Frequently when leading he saw a backward compatriot who needed bringing up, and Nurmi would drop back and pick up his colleague and take him to the leading position. As a result of these tactics Nurmi finished first and his Compatriots filled second and third places. Nurmi has become the Olympiad’s personality, and his name will go down among athletic pi’odigies. Rav, America’s distance champion, mentioned as Nurmi’s rival, appeared in the second heat anfi greatly amused the crowd by copying Nurmi’s stopwatch system. When lying second he stopped to adjust a leg bandage thereby losing fifteen seconds, and lie resumed at the tail of the field. He passed twenty rivals and finished tenth. When a Frenchamn fell the crowd began hooting the Americans, and resumed the outburst when an American won. Nurmi and Ray thus meet on Sunday in the final, for which Finland. Britain, America, and France have qualified. Delport (Belgium) won the sword championship. The second heat of the disputed ten thousand metres walk was adjudicated upon by new judges. The field included the Italian champion Frigerio, the vanquisher of the Australian (Parker) at the Antwerp Olympics. There were again numerous disqualifications, including Kuhnet, hut the crowd made’no demonstration. Frigerio won with ridiculous ease, lapping most of the competitors. WORLD’S RECORD IN JUMPING. NURMI AGAIN WINS EASILY. PARIS, July 12. Duigan, in the long jump, covered 6.03 metres, and put the weight 9.733 metres. In the first heat of' the 400 metres relay race, the British team beat Greece in the world’s j-ecord time of 42 seconds. The hop step, and jump was won bv Winter (Australia), with a world’s record jump of 15.525 metres, Brunito (Argentine) being second, and Tuuloss (Finland) third.
