CANTERBURY MARKETS. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. - ) CHRISTCHURCH, July 11. The slide in the potato market continues. and at the moment the prospects are far from encouraging. Vessels arriving this month from Victoria and due to leave are estimated to bring between them quite 20,000 sacks. The slide in local prices since tfm mid-week report, is 10s a ton. On Tuesday £6 f.0.b.. sacks in. was offered., while yesterday £5 15s and to-day £5 I.os was offered and accepted in severai cases. The quotation to farmers as a result is £4 os on trucks. Growers are commencing to offer more freely, but will not accept this price after refusing up to £5 los three weeks ago. However, there have been some sales at £4 15s and £4 os on trucks, or £o los f.0.b., sacks in. Values are on a parity for the Auckland market with present Victorian quotations. Oats are just, a shade blighter. It is reported there is enquiry from Australia. T T p to os 2d f.0.b.. sacks in. is quoted for July delivery, and os Id for August and September. Farmers are not offering oats. There is no change in chaff values, the small business transacted being confined to Canterbury and coast. I’p to £7 is quoted on trucks, nr £8 12s 6d f.0.b.. sacks in.
A little business has been done in cocksfoot at 12!d for standard seed. Danish is quoted at £0 Os fid a cwt.
