ITALIAN PAPERS PROTEST. OBJECTION TO A DECREE. BY CABLE—PR CSS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Julv 12, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, July 11. The Rome correspondent of The Times says that widespread indignation has been aroused by the enforcing of the decree regulating the press, w'hich was passed last year but held in abeyance. The correspondent states that the real object of the. decree undoubtedly is to prevent hostile criticism of the Fascist regime. The newspapers complain that it places in the hands of the, provincial prefects a weapon which may lead to political persecution, and threatens not only the liberty but the very existence of the press. —Times.
