Monday is the fifty-sixth anniversary of the night attack on Turuturu-Mokai'. Mr. John G. Beamish, Patea, is the only European survivor of that historical event. Of those in charge of the blockhouse nine were killed and seven wounded (including Mr. Beamish}.
