SPORTING.

WELLINGTON MEETING. (Notes by Maecenas). WELLINGTON, July 11. At the time 6f writing the weather looks threatening for to-morrow’s racing, and should a rain come on the already “dead” race track will become very heavy. Judged on the convincing way he won on Wednesday, Merry Singer must again play a leading part in the Talavera Hurdles, although the shorter distance and concession in weight gives Admiral Codrington good prospects. Lady Fingers ran an excellent race on the opening day, and will possibly repeat this in the /Liverpool Handicap tomorrow.

Gaze wag expected to win on Wednesday, but lost his rider at the first obstacle, but as he is an erratic jumper a solid gelding like Bustler is sure to trouble him. Te .Ivawa had bad luck on the opening day, and with “Snowy” Morris in the saddle may do better to-morrow in the Crofton Hack. The first running did not reveal any information as to what will run well in the Wellington Steeples, which is most open. Omahu showed fair form in the Winter Hurdles, and Pamplona and his stablemate Galway are “possibilities. ’ ’ Several of the acceptors for the Winter Oats will show better form to-mor-row than that exhibited on Wednesday, but they cannot all win. Musketoon, Toina and Alaric cdme under this heading. \ Lochson, Nukumai and Maunga should again fight a good battle in the Final Hurdles, and Papaponga and Barn Owl may have a following for the Kia Ora Handicap.
