The electrical engineer’s report for June- stated the water supply was maintained continuously during the month with the exception which in this case was due to a bad leak in the. mains in Cambridge Street, which has been repaired. The pumping hours were for the IT h.p. pump 131 hours and for the 40 h.p. pump 42 hours, using 3014 electrical units and pumping 1.340,400 gallons of water, averaging 44,680 gallons per day. Tlie hydro plant has run satisfactorily during the month and run 739 hours out of 744 hours, which is a record for this plant. The water level in the dam varied from; 12in. below to 3in. above the spillway. Owing to the Post and Telegraph Department making extensive alterations to their lines in Portland Quay, and to comply with their requirements, T had to renew the line's from, the end of the traffic bridge to Gibsons, Ltd.’s store. The bare wire was taken down and replaced with insulated, which was in stock. As the other portion of these lines was in very bad repair I took the opportunity of reconstructing the whole section, and the service lines to the railway station were also renewed. Considerable progress lias been made with the lines from the gas- plant to supply Norfolk. Kent and Essex Streets. if weather permits one more week should complete the section.

The special committee set up for the purpose reported that the section from which the old studio had recently been removed should he cleared of ail nibbl'd! and the hoard fence now around a portion of the section should he continued to the library and the present old picket fence in front of the library he removed. Cr. Jones considered that it would he just as cheap to erect an iron fence as a board one. with the added advantage of longer service. It was decided to call for alternate tenders for erection of fence in wood cr iron, to he in by next meeting of the council, and in the ■ meantime the borough stalf to clear rubbish from off t'he section. Cr. Ram shot-tom brought up the question of utilising a portion of the section at the Town Hall site as a playground for children, the section to he fit-red up_ on similar lines to the playgrounds in some of the other towns Cr Jones agreed with the project, but thought it better to look at other sections before fixing oh the site Or. Peacock thought it would be better to spend the money in makiim a decent road to the heads, as he considered a playground on the sands was lar more beneficial to the children. Alter further discussion it was decided to hold the matter over for the present. 1 lie meeting thenr adjourned.
