From remarks passed by Mr J. R. Barton, R.M., at a meeting of the Patea Licensing Committee this morning. it appears that there is a likelihood of there being only one license for \Y aitotara in the near future. Rome little time ago the police gave it as their opinion that there was not room for Iwo hotels in that township, and now that the \Y aitotara Hotel has been burnt it seems that what was recently being advocated will shortly lie an accomplished fact. Mr Barton intimated that tae owners of the two hotels were now negotiating with a view to the two license? becoming one, and lie was prepared to give an assurance that if the negotiations led to such ail understanding the committee would not grant a license to any other person. In the meantime the licensee of the Waitotara Hotel was granted a license to sell spirituous liquors in temporary premises until August 7.
