J. occupied the chap-. A very strong committee was set- up to make the ball eclipse any previous one. AH arrangements are well in hand, and the different committees apointed for the various duties are very strong. The advertisement for the ball apnears in to-night’s Star. , The farewell social and dance and presentation to M< c and Mrs Collier, which is to be held in the Manaia Towii Hall on Friday night, promises to be a great success. All arrangements are well in hand. A capital programme is arranged, also first-class floor, supper and music for the dance. No doubt there will be a good attendance to say 'farewell to Mr and Mrs Collier. The- football match played yesterday afternoon on the Manaia Domain in aid cl the sports queen between teams selected from the East versus West portions of the YVaimate West -County was very interesting, and resulted in a draw, each side scoring 17 points. -Mr J. Christie controlled the game. YOUNG PEOPLED CLUB. There was a large attendance at the Young People’s Club on Monday when Dr'. Wright delivered his address on “Ruies of Health:” The doctor dealt with a number of practical points in relation to the maintenance of sound health. Dealing with clothing, he said most people wore too much. High school boy's with their bare knees and shirts instead of coats did not complain of the cold. The main things were to keep the extremities warm, and to change out of wet things as soon as rest was taken. With regard to- bathing, the cold shower was good provided a glow was felt immediately afterwards. A hot JmGi should always be followed by a cold shower, except in the case of one taken before going to bed. Speaking of food, the doctor stressed the importance of thorough mastication, no eating between meals and the value of sound teeth. He described the proper method of cleaning the teeth, and urged that the habit should be formed of brushing them after every meal and before going to bed. Exercise, was very important. Skipping first thing in* the morning in the fresh air was excellent. All muscles were developed by it. Most people had a tendency to be flabby about the abdominal wall. Women were specially liable to this through wearing corsets. Exercise should be taken specially to strengthen the muscles of the wall. Raising oneself from a flat to a sitting position without external aids was an excellent exercise. If possible, some outdoor game shpuld be played 'summed and winter. In regard to sleep, some people sleep too much. An adult required at the least 8 hours sleep, and growing young people still more. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the doctor for his .interesting and informative address. The following were elected officers of the club-President, Mr Boyle; vicepresident, Miss' M. Armitage ; committee, Misses Patterson, Row and Young, and Messrs Lloyd and Goodchap. Subscriptions were fixed at 2s 6d per member.
Community singing and games occupied the rest of the evening till supper.
