Pr ? s re i ,ort9 - u«,t the Minister for Agriculture should attack the industry, presumably -of the interested parties, and further regrets that such an attack should be launched against a particular company, without the Minister satisfying himself that such company is, charging rates in excess of those charged by other similar companies. ”
COURT OF APPEAL. rm. r, WELLINGTON, July 8. The Court of Appeal was to-day considering the appeal in the case of 80lt on v - knight, the case emanating from Wellington, but being of general interest. The. appeal is against the .judgment of Mr Justice Salmond, who decided that an occupier of land is liable for a nuisance affecting his neighbour, notwithstanding that the cause of the nuisance was created by his predecessor in the title. In this case the nuisance complained' of was the collapse of a retaining wall, against which accumulations of artificial earth had been banked for the purpose of levelling the ground of the upper occupier. The retaining wall having collapsed, the artificial earth came through and did damage on the land of the lower occupier. The hearing is unfinished.

WELLINGTON, July 8. _\\ hen the mail steamer Maunganui, which arrived to-day, was four days out_ from San Francisco, one of the blades of the propeller stripped, and the vessel’s speed was reduced slightly for the remainder of the journey. She was also delayed at Raratonga loading a fruit cargo, and did not leave that p.ort until midnight on Tuesday, being about 14 hours late. BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. CHRISTCHURCH, July 8. Mr J. C. Prudhoe, of Christchurch, who in April last issued voting papers to school teachers with the object of ascertaining their views on the two questions submitted, announces thiaf the following are the results, as certified by Messrs H. The tender of the Hansford and Mills Construction Company, Wellington and Auckland, at £183,654, has been accepted for the war memorial museum. The work will be commenced immediately, the contract time being three years. It has been definitely decided that the base of the building will be in Coromandel granite, and the superstructure in Hawkesburv sandstone.
