SOCIAL EVENING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Tire social evening to 'oe held at Kaupokonui packing room this evening (Tuesday) is sure to be a great success. The committee have made all arrangements and a splendid programme has been arranged, consisting of vocal items, recitations, games and competitions. The proceeds are to go towards the Manaia Town Convent Carnival Queen. Free cars for all who are anxious to be present will leave the Manaia Post Office at 7.30 p.m. QUEEN CARNIVAL. 1 Very keen interest is being taken in the football match to be played on the Manaia Domain to-morrow (Wednesday) afternoon in aid of the sports queen. Both sides are very strong, and a very close finish is expected. Given, good weather there is sure to be a large attendance. The euchre party held last evening in aid of the sports queen in the Town Hall was .largely attended, and a splendid evening’s amusement was the result. Mr. McDonald won the men’s prize and Mrs. D. Rotliery the ladies'. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Th£ monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday, Mr. A. M. Mowlem,.S.M., presiding. In the following eases judgment was given for plaintiff with costs: —John Norton, v. W. A. Brewer, £4; A. El. West v. Aka Manu, £3 10s; J. A. Pettigrew v. J. Corkill. £1 l»s and judgment for costs £2 6s 6d; R,. H. Hollard v. R;. P. Wilson, £10; M. F. Jones v. James Marshall, £6. In the judgment summons case, Farmers’ Co-op. v. Tommy Tutawa, claim for £l6 16s, there was no appearance of defendant, who- was ordered to pay the amount within fourteen days, in default seventeen davs’ imprisonment 1 . “ The Acclimatisation Society ranger (Walter James Vincent) - proceeded against Joe Epai, Whymond Opai James Adamson and Johnny Wliiro for shooting pigeons and parson birds. Each was fined £5 and expenses amounting to £1 los 6d. J. Adamson on a, second charge of having native game in his possession, was convicted YmT* 20s and 12s costs. Johnny Whiro, on a similar charge, was con-r victed and fined 20s and 12s costs. FAREWELL SOCIAL. There was a large attendance at the meeting of the- committee which is arlanging the farewell social and presentation to- Mr. and Mrs. Collier Arrangements, are well in hand for the farewell, to be given in the Manaia , own Hall on Friday night. The ladies committee reported full progress in their department. There is su7e to be- a large attendance of citizens present to show their anpreciation of the services rendered to Manaia bv Mr. and Mrs. Collier. A first class floor, supper and music, and also a very fine programme of vocal and other‘items are being arranged.
