Addressing a gathering ot Canadians, Lord Birkeimeau declared: “Parlinmeni’s decision in iegaird to pieferenca does not represent the views of the people ol : England. Tiiu decision is not irrevocable, and it shall be revoked. “We do not seek to involve you in our domestic disputes,” added" Lord Birkenhead, ‘‘but I ask you to take Pack to Canada this message, that the decision regarding Imperial preference was taken in the teetii cf our protest. There exist in Britain many men with power recommending their view to the British electors, who are still aware of the incomparable resources of the mighty Dominions and the advantages ol ; the preference which yon voluntarily gave many years ago, and who, on the moral side, never forgot that Canada, like Australia, in the greatest crisis of our history ranged herself on our side with the unquenchable spirit of courage. “First.and foremost among the Imperial postulates I put this: There must lie absolute equality between the daughter States and the Home country. There is no question of a dictating policy on either side.”
