ROBBERIES IN MELBOURNE SUBURBS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT MELBOURNE, July 7. There were three daring robberies in sflburb streets late on Friday night. Masked men, presenting a revolver, held up Mr Mac Audie, secretary to the Naval Board, in Kew, and robbed him of £5 and other belongings. At Parkville, Manley, a- clerk at the Metropolitan Board works-and a man at St. Kilda underwent similar experiences. From the last-named they took over £ll, KETCH. OVERTRUNS. HOBART, July 7. LABOUR COUNCIL’S CABLE CHALLENGED.
. SYDNEY, July 7. Referring to the Labour Council’s cable to Mr. MacDonald, Sir George Fuller said it was misleading and untrue. The records of the Department show that only 98 migrants have been registered on the books for employment in the past three months. These were mostly unskilled workers, who came out either on their own initiative or under the nominated system. Government funds had always been and still are available for destitute families, while help is obtainable from other sources for. all persons in need. SHIPPING. NEWCASTLE, July 7. Additional details of the 1921. census returns made available show that of Australia’s total population 82J per cent were horn in the Commonwealth and "8 per cent were born in some part of Empire.
