STRIKE IN BRITAIN. BY CABLE —JTKESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT _ . . LONDON, July 5. The building trade strike, involving 600,000 men, began at noon to-day. The court of inquiry into the "dispute began the hearing of evidence under protest against the terms of reference. The Communist Party issued a manifesto congratulating the ivorkers “on their stand against the insolent and arrogant challenge of the building trade employers,” and suggesting that the Government take steps to carry on the builidng of houses for workers by direct labour, and pay the increased wages demanded bv the workers.
