arrangements to farewell MR. B- C. BENNETT. There was an. air of enthusiasm at the meeting held last evening to consider a suitable send-off to Mr B. C. Bennett, on the evening of his leaving to join the official All Black party at the end the month. Apologies were received from the Mavor and Messrs J. Benton (Opunake),* P. Bond, W. Syme, T. Struthers, and Bert Gilison. M]‘- M. F. Purser presided and briefly mentioned the reasons for calling the meeting. Mr. R. Morrissey eulogised Mr. Bennett for his good work for town and district, and moved that a send-off be tendered to Mr. Bennett. Mr. F Gillanders seconded, saying that he had worked in many causes with Mr. Bennett, and that he knew no one who had done better service to the town. Mr. G. Ryan, Mr. L. O. Hooker, and Mr. W. Gilbert heartily supported the motion, and it was carried unanimously. The form of the entertainment was then considered, and after lengthy discussion it was resolved that it'take the form of a smoke concert, and that a presentation be made, the form of which is to be left to a committee consisting of Messrs Purser, Ryan_ Gillanders, Quin, Gilbert, Campbell, Hooker and Morrissey. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr. Purser was elected .chairman and Mr. L. 0. Hooker secretary. At this meeting it was resolved that his Worship the Mayor, and, failing him. the deputy-Mayor, be asked to preside at the smoke concert. Further details as to date, hall, etc., were left to the secretary to arrange and report to a further meeting, to be held in the Winter Show office on Wednesday, July 16.
