A CURT NOTE

LEAGUE OF NATIONS UNION. PRESIDENCY REFUSED. *Y CABLI—PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT Received July 5, 9.5 a.m. LONDON, July 4, Although Mr. MacDonald is a staunch supporter of the League of Nations, he has refused to accept the honorary presidency of the League of Nations Union, which is an unofficial organisation carrying on propaganda on behalf of the League. Previous Premiers have accepted the presidency, and it is understood that Mr. MacDonald cherishes a personal grievance because the founders of the union excluded the Independent Labour Party from it. Mr. MacDonald’s refusal of the presidency is contained in a curt note. He also requests that no more of the union’s literature be forwarded to him. Further developments are expected.— Sydney Sun Cables.
