MAJORITY VERDICTS.
JURIES AMENDMENT BIM* (By Telegraph.—Special to Star). It persistence merits reward, the Juries Amendment Bill, which has mad? its appearance in Parliament unsuccessfully for five or six years past, may succeed this session. The Hon. John MacGregor gave notice in the Legislative Council of his intention introduce the Bill, which the Council several times, only to be rejected on each occasion by the Lower Rouse. The Bill provides, inter alia, that a majority of five-sixths may be accepted in criminal cases, except capital cases, and far the continuance of a trial notwithstanding that the jury may be reduced in number.
