V l ’. C. A. Purdey, of Hawera, left for Wellington this morning to attend the funeral of his father, Mr Geo. Purdey, a very old resident of Wellington, who had been ailing fc,r a. long time. Deceased, who was a printer by trade, resided in Hawera in the early eighties. The late Mr Purdey joined the Melbourne military settlers, and arrived in Taranaki in the sixties. After getting his discharge, he returned to Victoria" hut came hack to New Zealand again in 1874. He worked on the Taranaki News for some time, eventually going to Wellington, where he was employed at the Government Printing Office until superannuated.
