EGYPT.
THE SUDAN QUESTION. MR MACDONALD EXPLAINS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGIIT. Received July 2, 10.30 a.m. LONDON, July 1. Regret at the attitude of the Egyptian Government and Parliament over the question of the Sudan was expressed by Mr MacDonald in the House of Commons. He said the statements in the Egyptian Parliament and the action taken to create trouble in the Sudan was only explainable as an attempt to'force his .(Me MacDonald’s) hand and deprive Zaghlul of the liberty of negotiation. In view of what had happened it was necessary for him (Mr MacDonald) to make it "'clear to all concerned. He did not believe the Commons would accept any arrangements which would break our pledges to the Sudan or jeopardise the present administration -and its development. He still trusted that those responsible for the Government of both countries u ’oMd refuse to countenance the impossible demands which would destroy the prospect of a settlement.—Reuter.
