Aitken, of the University of Otago, arrived in- Wellington, by the Napier train to-night to join the liner Pakeha, which sails .at daybreak to-morrow for the Old Country. On behalf of the New Zealand Government. the Prime Minister (Rt v Hon. W., F. Massey) sent Dx;. Aitken the, following message to-day : “Accept from myself and mv colleagues in Cabinet our hearty good wishes on the eve of leaving -to take up vour Rhodes Scholarship. I feel sure, that you w ill worthily uphold the splendid reputation winch our previous Rhodes scholars have wtori for New Zealand. The Dominion will watch your progress with keen interest;” , - , ... ACTION AGAINST CITY COUNCIL, WELLINGTON, July 1. The Roseneath Progressive Association has carried out their threat to take action for an injunction to prevent the City Council constructing an inclined tramway from Oriental Bay to the heights above. Yesterday the corporation was served with a writ requiring a stay of the work/ which has already been begun on the lift, until the case is heard by the Supreme Court. The grounds are' that the lift will not provide access to Roseneath, and that the money was voted for a road and may not be diverted to other purposes.
