SPLITTING VOTES.
DONE FOR A BET. (BY TELEGRAPH— PRESS ASSOCIATION.) ' WELLINGTON, July 1. Lclward Jack Cromer, alias Kromer, ahas Anderson, appeared at the Magistrate s Court charged with splitting a Union Bank pound note and a Bank of New Zealand ten shilling note. Counsel tor accused said the occurrence arose a® of a . bet in a hotel bar, and the .splitting was done there to show that splitting., could •be done.. There was no. intention' to pass the notes. The accused had been in business in Wellington Tor some time and had been an officer in the navy during the .war The police, however, said the accused was not unknown to them, and in asking for a remand till Wednesday,'-requested that heavy bail be fixed, as the offence was a serious one. The remand was granted, and bail, allowed of „£4OO. •. ;
