SWIMMING.

CHARLTON'S BREATHING AFFECTED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received .Tune 30, 8.5 a m , . LONDON, June 29. The Australian Press Association’s 1 ans correspondent says that Charlton in the afternoon, in the 800 metres swim, was compelled to leave the water at 500 metros. He was struggling for breath, although making good time. 'Similar trouble during the past week has necessitated his swimming shorter distances than lie intended on entering the water. Charlton says that the breathing defect is unaccountable, as he is not suffering from cold, bronchial or nasal troubles. Although he did not feel tired, he was unable to continue his swim, leaving the water breathing heavily. He has decided that he will not give an exhibition to-night, hut instead will undergo Turkish lath treatment to reduce his weight. The trouble is not regarded seriously, and it is hoped that it is nothing more than indigestion resntling from French food, which is unsuitable for athletes.— A.N.Z.C.A.
