GREAT ARRAY AT HENDON. WONDERFUL FEATS PERFORMED. EY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received June 30, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, June 29. The array of aeroplanes at Hendon is amazing in variety. The most popular was a, toplike monoplane named Pixie, being only elbow-high. This midget flitted about amongst thcscouts. bombers, and a huge triplane. The last-named is experimental. It has two propellers and is gear-driven from a central engine. One of the surprises of the programme was the picking up of messages from the ground. These were affixed to a cord suspended between sticks. The aeroplane swooped, trailing a grapple, wherein the cord was entangled and then drawn into the cockpit. The attack on a raiding steamer was spectacular. A giant amphibian wirelessly called up “flycatcher” scouts. These machine-gunned and cleared the raider’s decks. Then five torpedocarriers nose-dived and dropped dummy charges. The raider, which was constructed of timber and canvas, went np in a sheet of flame and smoke. The stunts by British and French aces were hair-raising, the former losing nothing hv comparison.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
